Change recommended in Constitution

The National Board of Directors will recommend a change in the Alumni Association's Constitution to the general membership at the Annual Business Meeting on October 28 (Homecoming Weekend).

According to executive director John Correro, the board will recommend that Section 9 of the Article VI of the Mississippi State University Alumni Association Constitution be eliminated.

This section states that "the office of National President shall be rotated between the northern portion of Mississippi, the central portion of Mississippi, and the southern portion of Mississippi, provided there is a candidate from the appropriate region that is willing and qualified."

Correro said that if the change is approved there would no longer be a rotation and that the nominating committee would select the best-qualified candidate from submitted nominations to recommend to the general membership. Nominations also could be accepted from the floor at the business meeting.

If the change is adopted, it will take effect with election of the 1997 officers.
