Men netters advance to Sweet 16 of tennis

Coach Andy Jackson's men's tennis team received its fifth consecutive berth in the 16-team men's NCAA Tennis Championships held in May at the University of Georgia in Athens.

The seventh-ranked Bulldogs advanced to the round of eight with a 4-2 victory over 14th ranked California, before being eliminated by top-ranked and eventual national champion Stanford 4-0.

The Bulldog netters finished the season with a 19-7 record, which included a third-place finish at the SEC Championships in Baton Rouge, La.

Seniors Laurent Orsini and Joc Simmons, along with Simmons and sophomore Matt Pledger, were invited to play in the NCAA singles championships.
