National forcasting winners

Two Mississippi State students recently took top honors in the National Collegiate Weather Forecasting Contest. Dr. David L. Arnold, left, assistant professor of geosciences, congratulates Ray Hodgkiss, center, of Bloomington, Ind., and Tony Womack of Rosalie, Ala., on their awards. Hodgkiss, a graduate student in meteorology, won the graduate student division over 250 competitors, while Womack, a senior meteorology major, bested 600 participants to take the overall title. The annual contest, sponsored by Pennsylvania State University, challenged budding meteorologists to forecast weather during a two-week period for Syracuse, N.Y., as accurately as possible.
