Truax named outstanding engineer for Mississippi

A state engineering society has recognized a Mississippi State professor as its outstanding engineer for 1994-95.

The Mississippi section of the American Society of Civil Engineers named Dennis Truax Outstanding Civil Engineer. The award is based on service to the society and to the profession.

Truax also has recently been nominated by the Mississippi Engineering Society for the 1995 AT&T Engineering Education Excellence Award.

Truax has taught in Mississippi State's Civil Engineering Department since 1977. For 14 years, he has served as adviser for the student chapter of ASCE. [See related story.]

He has held a number of offices in state and national engineering societies, including president of the Mississippi Engineering Society and the Mississippi section of ASCE.

He has won six awards for service from the ASCE and has been recognized by the National Association of Water Institute Directors and the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges.
