Commencement features Lott address, special graduates

Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.), left, delivered the May 1995 commencement address to more than 2,500 fall and spring semester graduates. Lott is the first Southerner to hold the position of majority whip in the U.S. Senate. He also chairs the Strategic Forces Subcommittee of the Armed Forces Committee and the Merchant Marine Subcommittee of Commerce, Science and Transportation. Two of this year's graduates are Melanie Watson and Mary Jane Keith of Durant, right, who commuted four and a half years to classes each day--a 170-mile round trip. What makes their story even more special is that they are mother and daughter.
