McConnell's musical works to be performed Nov. 9

The Department of Music Education will present a faculty recital of compositions by composer-in-residence Doug McConnell on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Starkville.

Performers will include faculty members Joel Harrison, Leanne Fazio, Lana Johns, and Jackie Edwards, along with guest artists Shawn Balentine and Judy Irvin. Also performing will be the Daughters of Jerusalem (a women's chorus composed of Mississippi State students) and the Madrigal Singers, directed by Jerry Williams with Anne Katherine Everett as accompanist.

McConnell is an associate professor and coordinator of the music theory program in the Department of Music Education. He earned master's and doctoral degrees in composition at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

His compositions have been performed in Germany, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, and Russia.

McConnell was the 1993 recipient of the Mississippi State Alumni Association's Faculty Achievement Award for excellence in lower level teaching.
