Tommie Zacharias concludes year on national education board

Tommie Zacharias concluded a year's service in November as a member of the board of directors of the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges and as chair of the organization's Council of Presidents' and Chancellors' Spouses.

Mrs. Zacharias organized a two-day program for spouses of university presidents and chancellors during the 106th annual meeting of NASULGC in Washington, D.C., Nov. 11-13.

The program included a forum on "Public Relations and the Media" with Newhouse News Service Washington Bureau Chief Deborah Howell, as well as discussions of fund raising and the university president's spouse, effective use of personal computers, and other topics.

At Mississippi State, Mrs. Zacharias has played an active role in the university's first comprehensive major gifts effort, The Campaign for Mississippi State, and as senior adviser to Mortar Board.

She also is a member of the board of directors of the United Way of North Mississippi and the Salvation Army. She is a graduate of Indiana University, and has taught high school English, speech, and journalism.
