Preparing future leaders topic of spring convocation

A professor of leadership at Nashville-based Belmont University will be featured speaker Jan. 7 for Mississippi State's spring semester faculty convocation.

"The Person-Centered University: Positioning for the Future" will be the topic of a presentation by Bill Arnold of Belmont's Massey Graduate School of Business. His remarks will focus on the preparation of today's students for 21st century leadership roles.

Sponsored by the University Instructional Improvement Committee, the convocation will begin at 9 a.m. in the University Theatre of McComas Hall.

In addition to Arnold's address, the 90-minute program also will include the presentation of the first university-wide academic advising award. The award was created by the advisory board of the newly established University Advising Center for Entering Students.

Prior to joining the Belmont faculty earlier this year, Arnold was president of Nashville's Centennial Medical Center, flagship facility of the Hospital Corp. of America. He previously was president of the Stanford University Hospital.

Founded in 1951, Belmont University is a private institution affiliated with the Tennessee Baptist Convention.

Arnold, a 45-year-old Long Beach, Calif., native, holds a bachelor's degree in English literature, cum laude, from the University of Washington and a master's in hospital administration from the University of California at Los Angeles.
