Richardson tapped for regional office

Mississippi State's assistant vice president of student affairs for cultural diversity has been named to the executive council of a regional student affairs organization.

Dr. Brenda Richardson is one of four at-large members elected at a recent meeting of the Southern Association for College Student Affairs. The Columbus native will serve for three years.

"This position is responsible for helping provide leadership for the organization, including reviewing conference plans and all business pertaining to the organization," Richardson said. "I am honored to represent Mississippi State University."

Formed in 1950, the association has more than 900 members representing 15 states and the District of Columbia. The organization provides professional development opportunities for people in student affairs, encourages research in the area of college student affairs, and promotes professional standards in the field.

Each executive council member is assigned to a SACSA task force. Richardson will serve as liaison to the research committee and task force on community colleges.

Previously, she has served on committees that include the annual conference program, issues and awareness, and local arrangements.

Richardson holds a bachelor's degree from Mississippi University for Women, and master's and doctoral degrees from Mississippi State. She was assistant director of housing at the University of Georgia before returning to Mississippi State in 1991.
