Teleconference focuses on learning groups

Acclaimed author, lecturer, and management consultant Peter Senge was featured presenter in a Dec. 10 teleconference broadcast at Mississippi State.

The three-hour program, "Understanding Learning Organizations," was one of a series of fall teleconferences sponsored by the university's Division of Continuing Education in cooperation with the Public Broadcasting System.

A professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and director of MIT's Sloan School of Management, Senge is author of The Fifth Discipline: The Art and Practice of the Learning Organization.

He also is a founding partner of the management consulting and training firm Innovation Associates and co-founder of The Learning Circle.

As defined by Senge, a learning organization develops the knowledge and skill to redefine its sense of purpose and vision of the organization itself. It develops an environment of continuous learning for everyone, enhancing creativity and productivity in the workplace. According to Senge, an increase in learning capacity will enable U.S. organizations to compete effectively in today's global economy.

The broadcast was presented live via satellite. Participants in remote sites had an opportunity to interact with the presenter by calling in questions and receiving immediate answers on-air.
