White to serve on Mississippi Humanities Council

Dr. Jack White, director of the University Honors Program, has been elected to the Mississippi Humanities Council as an academic-sector representative.

The MHC is composed of 22 Mississippians who serve four-year terms as volunteers. The organization directs funds received from Congress through the National Endowment for the Humanities to nonprofit groups to support public programs for the state's citizens.

White, an associate professor of English at Mississippi State, received a Ph.D. from Texas Tech University in 1978. He has served as a program participant, evaluator, and advocate for public humanities programs throughout the life of the MHC.
