Advising Center seeks nominations for academic advising award

The Advising Center has issued a call for nominations for the Outstanding Academic Advisor award, to be presented at the spring semester Faculty Convocation in January.

The annual award, sponsored by the Mississippi State University Foundation Inc., recognizes a faculty member for effective advising qualities and practices. Last year's recipient was Dr. Henry Nash, head of the Department of Marketing, Quantitative Analysis and Business Law.

Criteria include, but are not limited to, demonstration of a caring attitude; interpersonal skills; availability to advisees; monitoring of advisees' progress; appropriate referral activity; evidence of student success rate; and college, school, or unit recognition for outstanding advising.

Nominations must be received by Nov. 11. Students and faculty and staff members can make nominations, and any regular faculty member serving as an academic advisor is eligible for the award.

The winner will receive $1,000 and will be nominated for the National Advising Award presented by the American College Testing/National Academic Advising Association.

For information on nominating procedures, contact Jamie Inmon at 325-4052.

Nominations should be sent via campus mail to The Advising Center, Lloyd-Ricks Annex, North, or by regular mail to P.O. Box 6117, Mississippi State, MS 39762-6117.
