

Awards support basic postdoctoral research for at least one year in all areas of knowledge. Grants help defray costs such as travel and the connection of the investigator to objects of research. Maximum award levels range from $4,000 to $5,000. Program has January 1, March 1, July 1, and November 1 application deadlines. Submit requests in writing for materials and information. Inclusion of proposed budget with inquiries is required.

Grants support national AND regional summer institutes, state AND local collaborative projects, masterwork study, conferences, planning grants, special projects, AND other activities that improve the teaching of the humanities in elementary AND secondary schools. Projects in western AND non-western history AND culture, English AND American literature, AND foreign languages are encouraged because these fields generally form the core requirements of school humanities programs. May deadline is for Teacher-Scholar Program applications.

With funding from the MacArthur Foundation, approximately 12 to 16 two-year doctoral AND postdoctoral fellowships will be awarded in international peace AND security studies. Doctoral students AND postdoctoral scholars from the physical AND biological sciences as well as from the social/behavioral sciences are eligible. Awards are approximately $17,500 per year for dissertation fellowships AND not less than $36,000 per year for postdoctoral fellowships.

Dissertation fellowships support the study of ethical or religious values in all fields. Topics include: philosophy AND religion; the ethical implications of foreign policy; the values determining political decisions; moral codes of other cultures; AND religious or ethical values as reflected in history AND literature. Applicants must be doctoral candidates with all course work completed. Stipend is $12,000 per year. Applications must be requested by November 18.
Supports three week summer internships for professors of advertising, marketing and related subjects. Visiting professors are given the opportunity to enhance their practical knowledge of the advertising process through on-the-job experience with advertising agencies, media companies, or advertisers. Participating host companies pay for housing and per diem, but not travel costs.
Two types of awards support research relevant to the effects of dietary and nutritional practices on the onset, development, and treatment of cancer. Investigator-Initiated Research Grants (January 1 and July 1 deadlines) average $55,000 per year for two years; and First Award Grants (February 1 deadline) provide one-year, non-renewable awards of $10,000.
Supports research and fellowships on the interrelationships of environmental biology from individual organisms to complex ecological systems. Emphases include basic research on the environment, ecological effects of global environmental change, environmental biotechnology, a National Center for Ecological Synthesis and Analysis, and molecular evolution. Most division programs have June 15 and December 15 target dates, but a few have annual deadlines falling at different dates throughout the year. Contact division for details.

Emphasizes the integration of molecular, subcellular, and cellular biology in understanding organisms in the lab and in nature. Awards are made through three program areas: Physiology and Behavior (June 15 and December 15 target dates), Neuroscience (January 15 and July 15 target dates), and Developmental Mechanisms (June 1 and December 1 target dates).
