Works by Brignac, Gootee featured in photo exhibition

An exhibition planned for Oct. 6-30 in the Department of Art gallery in McComas Hall will explore digital photography and alternative photographic presentations.

Goodnight George will feature the work of two campus photographers: Celeste Brignac, coordinator of photographic services for the School of Architecture, and Marita Gootee, associate professor of art.

The title of the show is a reference to George Eastman, founder of the Kodak Company.

Brignac, who received a bachelor of fine arts degree at Mississippi State, has had work accepted in 19 national exhibitions and 28 regional exhibitions since 1990. She recently exhibited photographs in Black and White Print Competition in Yonkers, N.Y., in which she received a Special Mention Award.

Gootee, known for her innovative use of dye transfer in photographic exploration, has shown works in three international, 15 national, and 24 regional exhibitions since 1990. She currently has work on display in the National Women Artists' Exhibition 1994 in Littleton, Colo.

"The visual imaging process is changing," Gootee said. "George Eastman introduced the ease of rolled film in 1889 and made photography available to everyone. Now, in the 1990s, the PhotoCD and the computer are rewriting the term 'photography.'"

Goodnight George is on display 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday through Oct. 30. A public reception will be held Oct. 6, 7-9 p.m.
