Program: Short-Term Grants in Russian Studies
Agency: Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies
Next Deadline: DEC 01, 1994
Awards support postdoctoral Russian studies scholars who wish to use the library resources of the Smithsonian AND the Library of Congress. Recent recipients of the Ph.D. are given preference. Stipend is $80 per day for up to one month of support. Visiting scholars must remain in the Washington, DC area AND forego other academic AND professional obligations for the duration of the grant.
Supports demonstration projects at institutions of higher education that seek to stimulate the involvement of students in community service. The program no longer requires a connection between students' service and a reduction in their financial aid debt. Projects should incorporate learning into the service opportunity and should solicit community input. Research projects that examine the effects of community service may also be funded. See the June 10, 1994 Federal Register for details.
Grants support research, demonstration, evaluation, and policy analysis projects in the areas of child development, pregnancy and birth outcomes, medical outcomes, and health care access. Center-Initiated Projects currently focus on health insurance coverage for young children. Grants usually average $50,000; a few multi-year grants range up to $300,000.
