Music profs to perform in Europe

Dr. Lana Johns and Dr. Joel Harrison, both members of the Department of Music Education faculty, will take a recital program to Europe in November.

Their visit is part of a three-week concert tour and artist residency funded by the International Research Exchange and Mississippi State's Humanities and Arts Research Program.

They will be artists-in-residence at the Prague Conservatory of Music, one of Europe's pre-eminent music institutions. Each also will perform recitals and conduct master classes throughout the Czech Republic. Performances will broadcast by Czech radio. The European tour will end with a performance at the Hochschuler fur Musik in Frankfurt, Germany.

When they return, the duo will perform a recital at Mississippi State of works composed for them by Czech composers.

Johns holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Cincinnati and a doctorate from Florida State University. She joined the Mississippi State faculty in 1992.

Harrison holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of North Carolina and Indiana University. He received a doctorate from Northwestern University. He joined the Mississippi State faculty in 1987.
