Mississippi State faculty member to present piano recital

Duncan MacMillan, a pianist and assistant professor at Mississippi State, will present the season's second Faculty Artist Series concert Nov. 10.

The 7:30 p.m. concert is set for the University Theatre of McComas Hall. Tickets are $5 for the general public and $3 for university faculty, staff, and students. They will be available at the door.

MacMillan's program includes Schubert's “Fantasy in C,” "Opus 15" ('The Wanderer'), and selections from "Annees de Pelerinage" ("Years of Pilgrimage") by Franz Liszt. In addition, he will perform the premiere of L. Stephen Sewell's "Sonata for Solo Piano," a work composed for and dedicated to MacMillan.

MacMillan joined the faculty last year after serving in higher education positions through the South. MacMillan graduated magna cum laude from Florida State University with bachelor's degrees in psychology and music performance, and master's degrees in music theory and performance.

He received a doctorate from the University of Oklahoma, where he was an Oklahoma State Regents Scholar. He has studied as a scholarship student at Oxford University.

MacMillan is past president of the Central Florida Music Teachers Association and a former vice president of the BRAVO Arts Patronage Association in Orlando.
