The L. Donovan Dodd Memorial Endowment for Ceramic Art honors a former Starkville resident who died July 13 at age 33. He was the son of Jimmy Dodd, a former Mississippi State electrical engineering professor, and his wife, Sarah.
Donovan Dodd was a member of the Starkville First Presbyterian Church and U.S. Coast Guard veteran. He received a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from Mississippi State in 1988 and had recently returned to the university to pursue a degree in ceramic art.
Once the Dodd Endowment reaches $15,000, a top student in ceramic art will be awarded a potter's wheel, the central piece of equipment used to sculpt clay.
To qualify, applicants for the award must be full-time juniors or seniors with demonstrated ceramic art achievements and leadership skills.
Persons interested in contributing to the endowment can telephone the Office of Development at (662)-325-3410, or write in care of Box 6149, Mississippi State, MS 39762-6149.
