Student financial management association nets top honor

Mississippi State's student chapter of the Financial Management Association received the FMA Superior Chapter designation for the 1993-94 academic year.

The 34-member FMA Student Chapter/National Honor Society won the award for its "dedication to excellence and the professional development of future finance professionals."

Of the more than 300 student chapters throughout the world, fewer than 5 percent are eligible for the FMA's highest student constituency honor.

Adviser Wayne Kelly said most, but not all, members are financial management majors. To be eligible for the superior award, he said the chapter had to meet certain criteria, such as having a number of professional guests at meetings, naming an outstanding financial executive, conducting field trips, and developing professional contacts. In addition, the chapter published its first newsletter this year.

The FMA International is a professional organization founded to bridge the gap between academicians and practitioners in the field of finance. It is headquartered in Tampa, Fla.
