Arts/Humanities/International

Program: Folk Arts Program
Agency: National Endowment for the Arts
Next Deadline: JAN 01, 1995

Makes grants to organizations that present traditional folk arts and artists in festivals, concerts, exhibits, residencies and workshops, or through media, including film, video, recording, radio, and still photographs. Awards also support organizations that provide services to the field through conferences, surveys, and assistance to local or state-based programs. The deadlines cited are for required letters of intent.

Program: Literature Program
Agency: National Endowment for the Arts
Next Deadline: JAN 13, 1995

Grants support published creative writers (including translators) and organizations that foster literature as a professional pursuit. Categories and deadlines are: Fellowships for Creative Writers, 3/3/95 (poetry) and 5/26/95 (fiction/creative nonfiction); Fellowships for Translators, 1/13/95; Assistance to Literary Magazines, 6/30/95; Small Press Assistance, 8/4/95; Distribution Projects, 9/9/94; Residencies for Writers, 9/30/94; Literary Centers, 9/30/94; Audience Development Projects, 9/30/94; and Professional Development, 1/13/95.

Program: Music Program
Agency: National Endowment for the Arts
Next Deadline: JAN 06, 1995

Awards grants to individuals and performing, producing and presenting organizations. Categories and deadlines for organizations are: Music Professional Training, 10/20/95; Career Development Organizations, 9/22/95; Music Recording, 9/22/95; Services to Composers, 9/22/95; and Special Projects, 3/31/94. Individual deadlines are: Composers and Collaborative Fellowships, 1/6/95; Jazz Fellowships, 1/20/95; and Solo Recitalists, 1/12/96.

Education/Human and Community Development

Program: Spencer Fellowship Program
Agency: National Academy of Education
Next Deadline: DEC 22, 1994

Up to thirty fellowships of $35,000 are awarded annually for one year of research in matters relevant to the improvement of education in all forms. The program is designed to encourage scholarship among individuals in the early stages of their careers. Candidates must have received the Ph.D. within the past five years.

Program: Executive Branch Policy Fellowships in Child Development
Agency: Society for Research in Child Development
Next Deadline: JAN 30, 1995

Three fellowships provide child development researchers with one year of residency at a federal agency. The fellow is treated as part of the agency staff and should have an interest in applying scientific knowledge toward the solution of societal problems affecting children. Fellows must be members of SRCD and will be part of an Intergovernmental Personnel Act agreement. Stipend range is $30,000 to $35,000.

Program: Distance Learning and Medical Link Program
Agency: U.S. Department of Agriculture
Next Deadline: JAN 14, 1995
Supports projects that encourage, improve, or make affordable the use of advanced telecommunications, computer networks, and related advanced technologies to provide educational and medical benefits through distance learning and medical links to people in rural communities, and to improve rural opportunities. Awards range between $10,000 and $500,000. IHEs and other profit or non-profit entities are eligible to apply individually or in consortia.

Health/Mental Health

Program: Substance Abuse Treatment Conference Grants
Agency: Center for Substance Abuse Treatment
Next Deadline: JAN 10, 1995

Supports planned meetings or conferences to disseminate information about strategies for improving substance abuse treatment and recovery services. Special consideration will be given to applications for projects that promote consensus building and community resource utilization. CSAT will provide up to 50 percent of the total project cost. The maximum award is $50,000. In FY 95, $400,000 is available to make eight awards. See the July 25, 1994 Federal Register for details.

Program: Violence-Related Injury Prevention Research
Agency: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Next Deadline: JAN 13, 1995

Supports a comprehensive research program to prevent and control injuries from interpersonal violence and suicidal behavior. FY 95 priorities are prevention of youth violence, youth suicide and firearm injuries. Collaborations of professionals in areas such as health care, criminal justice, and behavioral/social sciences are encouraged. In FY 95. three to five awards will be made. See the September 20, 1994 Federal Register for details.

Science/Engineering

Program: ASA/NIST Research Fellow and Associate Program
Agency: American Statistical Association
Next Deadline: JAN 13, 1995

Fellowships for senior researchers (1/13 deadline) and Associateships for graduate students or recent Ph.D.s (2/17 deadline) support four to nine months of research at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD or in Boulder, CO. Research areas include: process control; studies of advanced manufacturing systems; computing for engineering and industrial statistics; statistical image processing; and materials measurement and processing technologies. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
