Hargrove
The $22,000 Schillig Scholarships are the largest offered by Mississippi State, annually drawing about 400 applicants for the four or five awarded each spring. Nineteen scholars are currently enrolled.
As adviser, Hargrove will meet regularly with the students to present ideas on leadership training and personal development. The meetings are usually scheduled around special programs or lectures designed to give scholars an opportunity to become personally acquainted with leaders in various fields.
Hargrove, a Giles Distinguished Professor and a faculty member since 1970, teaches 20th century American literature. Over the past three decades, she has held four Fulbright lectureships. Since 1979, she has received a national book award and three major honors for teaching excellence.
As Schillig adviser, she succeeds English department colleague Gary L. Myers.
