Martin comes to Mississippi State from the University of Texas-San Antonio, where he has served since September as the head men's golf coach.
"We are delighted to welcome Greg Martin into our Mississippi State family," Templeton said. "He comes highly recommended and with experience in the area of recruiting and teaching that we think is essential for this position."
Prior to his appointment at UT-San Antonio, Martin was the assistant men's golf coach at the University of Texas for two years.
While at Texas, Martin helped UT to a pair of NCAA Top-10 finishes.
A native of Abilene, Texas, he played collegiate golf at the University of North Texas.
Following graduation in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in business administration, Martin competed briefly in amateur golf. He was a qualifying co-medalist at the U.S. Mid Amateur Championship in 1991 and a two-time qualifier for the U.S. Amateur Championship in 1988 and 1991.
