

Dr. Thomas Levy of the University of California, San Diego will lecture on the discoveries from the Chalcolithic period (4000-3200 B.C.) in Southern Israel. His illustrated presentation, "The Archaeology of Cult and the Chalcolithic Sanctuary at Gilat," will describe some of his recent investigations of the rich remains of the early settlement at Gilat and other sites in the northern Negev.
Levy joined the University of California faculty in 1992 as an assistant professor of anthropology and Judaic studies.
He received his doctorate in archaeology from the University of Sheffield, England, in 1981.
The free, public lecture will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Simrall Engineering Auditorium.
