Education 'town meeting' to be broadcast via satellite

The University Television Center will present a local segment of a live satellite broadcast of the U.S. Secretary of Education's Goals 2000 Satellite Town Meeting on March 15.

The 7:30-8:30 p.m. broadcast, to originate from Iuka through the university's remote satellite truck, can be viewed on Galaxy 7, Transponder 18, C-band or on

SBS-6, Transponder 5, KU band.

The on-location technology will allow local administrators and teachers to interact with other presenters from the Department of Education's headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The program's theme, "World Class Teachers," will be discussed with live interaction from selected remote sites. More than 3,000 receiving sites around the country will participate in the event.

The university's Office of Research and the NASA Tri-State Educational Initiative will sponsor the local production of the conference.
