He may look like someone from beyond the galaxy, but James McReynolds, 61, of Starkville actually is participating in a physical education study conducted by Dr. Joan Carroll, assistant professor of physical education, health, and recreation. McReynolds is using an arm ergometer while Carroll monitors his cardiovascular system. By studying how body temperature in older men is affected by exercise, Carroll hopes to learn more about potential problems the elderly face in dissipating heat when the core body temperature rises. She is believed to be the first American researcher to use exercise to study how the body regulates heat in the elderly.
