The Society of Scholars in the Arts and Sciences formally inducted the 1994 membership at a public ceremony earlier this month. State Sen. Amy Tuck of Starkville was the featured speaker.
Now in its 13th year on campus, the limited-membership organization recognizes scholarship and seeks to promote interest in the arts and sciences.
"Students nominated for the society must demonstrate a sound foundation in languages, mathematics and sciences, oral and written communications, humanities, and social sciences," said Dr. Paul Grootkerk, the organization's president.
Among qualifications for inductees are: a minimum of 45 hours of course work completed at Mississippi State; at least a second-semester junior standing; and a high grade-point average.
"The grade-point average of this year's inductees averaged 3.80, which is excellent," Grootkerk said.
New members include:
Holly E. Clowers of Jonesboro, Ark., a microbiology major; J. Michael Gousset of Grenada, a physics major; Sonia Kopyto of Starkville, a foreign languages major; Andrew Leidolf of Starkville, a forestry major; Erik P. Lessman of Huntsville, Ala., a chemistry major; Cameron L. Meek of Senatobia, a general liberal arts major; Lori A. Meyers of Metairie, La., a communication major; Anna R. Minor of Huntsville, Ala, a communication major; Myra C. Robinson of Loretto, Tenn., an art major; Paul A. Scott of Lucedale, a chemistry major; Stephanie L. Shriner of Starkville, an English major; and Bradley M. Webb of North Little Rock, Ark., a chemistry major.
