Interviews for two candidates for the position of provost and vice president for academic affairs are scheduled for next week.

Dr. Jane L. Winer, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas Tech University, will be on campus May 8-10.

Dr. Derek J. Hodgson, vice president for research at the University of Wyoming, will be on campus May 10-12.

She joined Texas Tech in 1971 as assistant professor of psychology. She is now a professor of psychology, in addition to her administrative role.

Winer holds bachelor's and master of library science degrees from the State University of New York, and master's and doctoral degrees from The Ohio State University.

While on campus, she will meet with the general faculty 3-4:30 p.m. Monday, May 9, in the Colvard Union ballroom. Immediately afterward, she will attend a reception with the general faculty and student and staff leaders in the same location.

Hodgson has served as the University of Wyoming's vice president for research since 1990. He joined the university in 1987 as professor and head of the Department of Chemistry.

He was on the faculty at the University of North Carolina from 1969-87, serving as director of graduate studies for the Chemistry Department from 1980-85 and vice chairman of the department from 1985-87. In 1980, he was a visiting scientist in the Department of Molecular Biophysics at Oxford University, England.

Hodgson received a bachelor's degree from Harvard University and a master's and doctorate from Northwestern University.

He will meet with the general faculty 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, in the Colvard Union ballroom, followed by a reception with the general faculty and student and staff leaders.

Over the past two weeks, interviews also were held with Dr. Marvin Barker, vice president for academic affairs at Tennessee Technological University; Dr. Jimmy Solomon, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Mississippi State; Dr. William J. Wilhelm, dean of the College of Engineering at The Wichita State University; and Dr. Robert A. Altenkirch, dean of the College of Engineering at Mississippi State.

In addition to the sessions with the general faculty, the interview schedule for each candidate includes meetings with President Zacharias, the search committee, the vice presidents, the deans, community leaders, student leaders, academic department heads and directors, representatives of other units reporting to the provost, and alumni and development representatives.

As soon as possible after interviews have concluded, the search committee, chaired by Dr. Leroy Boyd, will narrow the list to three names to be presented, unranked, to the president.
