

David T. Batarseh of Meridian and Cindy G. Callahan of Forest are graduates of Meridian and East Central community colleges, respectively.
Awarded in groups of 10 each year since 1992, the $5,000 scholarships are funded and administered by Phi Theta Kappa. The international honor society for students in community, technical, and junior colleges is headquartered in Jackson.
Selections for the honor are based on scholastic achievement, leadership, and service.
Both students completed their community college studies with 4.0 grade-point averages. Batarseh plans to major in chemical or biological engineering; Callahan, in secondary math education.
Other 1994 Guistwhite Scholars came from Alabama, Connecticut, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
