Arts/Humanities/International

Program: Woodrow Wilson Women's Studies Grants
Agency: Wilson (Woodrow) National Fellowship Foundation
Next Deadline: NOV 04, 1994

Grants support dissertation research in women's studies topics, such as the evolution of women's role in society, women in history, the psychology of women, and women as portrayed in literature. Eligible candidates should have completed all pre-dissertation requirements in any field of study. About 15 to 20 awards of $1,500 will be made in 1995. The deadline for requesting applications is October 21, 1994.

Program: Dissertation Fellowships
Agency: United States Institute of Peace
Next Deadline: NOV 15, 1994

Supports one-year dissertation fellowships for students who have completed all requirements for their degree, except the dissertation, by the start of the fellowship. Dissertation research must advance the state of the knowledge about international peace and conflict management. The annual stipend is $14,000.

Education/Human and Community Development

Program: Postsecondary Education for Persons with Disabilities: Demonstrations
Agency: U.S. Department of Education
Next Deadline: NOV 04, 1994

Supports model programs of postsecondary, vocational, technical, continuing, or adult education for individuals with disabilities. In FY 95, ED will give competitive priority to projects that develop models for serving students with disabilities who are also members of minority groups. See the June 10, 1994 Federal Register for details.

Program: Rehabilitation Research Fellowships
Agency: U.S. Department of Education
Next Deadline: NOV 15, 1994

One-year awards are made to individuals for full-time research to build research capacity and promote solutions to problems related to disability. In FY 95, 10 grants of $40,000 will be awarded. See the June 3, 1994 Federal Register for complete application package.

Health/Mental Health

Program: Health Care Financing Dissertation Fellowship Grants
Agency: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
Next Deadline: OCT 14, 1994

Supports full-time dissertation research on health care financing and delivery issues by students in social, management or health sciences. Fellows must be nominated by their respective institutions. Women and minority researchers are particularly encouraged to apply. Students enrolled in historically black colleges and universities will receive special consideration. HCFA will award 10 to 15 fellowships of up to $21,600 in FY 95.

Program: Animal Facility Improvement Program for Small Research Programs
Agency: National Institutes of Health
Next Deadline: OCT 01, 1994

Support enables institutions with small biomedical research programs using animals to upgrade and develop their animal facilities. Eligible institutions must have one or more PHS-supported research projects using laboratory animals at time of award, but total PHS support must be under $1.5 million for preceding fiscal year. Program helps institutions comply with USDA Animal Welfare Act and DHHS policies on animal care and treatment. Total award is limited to $300,000 (direct costs), of which not more than $200,000 may be used for alterations.

Science/Engineering

Program: Database Activities in the Biological Sciences
Agency: National Science Foundation
Next Deadline: NOV 01, 1994
Target Date - proposals may be submitted at any time.

Provides support for the design, development, implementation and use of information resources in all fields supported by the BS Directorate. Supported activities include methods and tools development; database activities research, and creation of algorithms and software; planning and design of databases; conferences and workshops; training; and collection, compilation and publication of appropriate background materials. Preproposals, to be submitted by July 1, are requested but not required.

Program: NSFNET Networking Program
Agency: National Science Foundation
Next Deadline: NOV 01, 1994
Target Date - proposals may be submitted at any time.
Encourages and facilitates scientific communication and collaboration by providing widespread access to unique resources through use of wide-area computer networks. Supports expansion of existing networks, assists formation of state and regional networks, and provides institutional access to NSFNET. For initial access to NSFNET, institutions typically receive a two-year grant of up to $30,000.

Program: Instrumentation and Laboratory Improvement Program
Agency: National Science Foundation
Next Deadline: NOV 14, 1994

Provides matching grants of up to $100,000 for projects to purchase or upgrade laboratory and instructional equipment that will be used to strengthen undergraduate instruction in science, math and engineering. All two-year, four-year and Ph.D. granting institutions are eligible to apply. In addition, a limited number of awards for Leadership Projects in Laboratory Development are made for innovative, replicable pilot or planning projects with potential for national impact. Separate divisions have different contacts.
