Night, Mother is the story of Jessie, a woman who lives with her mother in an isolated house on a country road. Jessie is divorced and unemployed, and her son is a petty thief. Her sense of hopelessness leads her to plan suicide.
At first, her mother refuses to take her seriously. Jessie sets about tidying the house and making lists of things to be looked after. Finally, to the mother's horror, Jessie takes her deceased father's revolver into her bedroom and locks the door.
The play will be directed by Dr. Jeffery Elwell, associate professor of communication and theater director.
Melanie Hintz, a senior from Collins, will play Jessie. Suehyla El-Attar, a sophomore from Starkville, is cast as the mother.
Other offerings for the year include Thieves Carnival, Oct. 19-22; Chapter Two, Feb. 22-25; and an April production to be announced later.
