Adult ed advisory council meets

Members of the Advisory Council for the Mississippi Adult Basic Education Model Project met recently on campus to assess the program's progress. Council members, from left, include Becky Cade and Diane Hickman of the state Board for Community and Junior Colleges, which funds the program; Dr. Melanie Hutto of Mississippi State, project director; and Tilda Neal, an instructor in the project. The four-year research project, which began last summer, is a collaborative effort of Mississippi State, East Mississippi Community College, the Starkville School District, and the Greater Columbus Learning Center. A model classroom at East Mississippi Community College serves a surrounding five-county area. The program is expected to be a model for other statewide literacy efforts.
