Drake

Campus program offers 'Magical Mystery Tour' and more

A multi-media presentation on rock music's most influential decade will be presented Oct. 4 at Mississippi State.

"'60s Rock . . . When the Music Mattered" will begin at 8 p.m. in the Colvard Union ballroom. Sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, the free program will feature music historian Barry Drake.

A Manhattan College graduate who bought his first rock record in 1954, Drake has been called a walking encyclopedia of music. After performing professionally in the 1960s, he signed a Capitol Records contract in 1970 and went on to record three albums and tour throughout the United States and Europe.

His presentation includes hundreds of slides and musical selections from such groups as the Beatles, Bob Dylan, the Supremes, and the Rolling Stones. The program recently earned him a nomination as the National Association of Campus Activities' lecturer of the year.
