Dawg Daze '94 set for Colvard Union
From a laser concert to interactive videos to free sherbet, the Colvard Union's Dawg Daze '94 celebration Sept. 16-24 should have something to interest everyone.
Union Director Lincoln Johnson said the union is holding the week of activities to highlight some of its services, but the primary goal is for everyone to "come have a good time." Most events are free, but there is a $5 admission charge for the laser concert.
Plans call for the open house to become an annual event before the first home football game. This year, to take advantage of the Tennessee Volunteers' bright orange colors, orange sherbet will be given away and Orange Pin Bowling is set.
In addition to fun and games, some educational booths will be manned by such groups as the Mississippi Alcohol Safety Education Program.
The schedule for Dawg Daze '94 follows:
- Friday, Sept. 16: Starstruck Studios, Colvard Union lobby, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., features total interactive video. Participants will be able to “star” in music videos (lip-syncing or singing) complete with props and MTV-style special effects, or appear in interactive videos in which they fly like Superman, water ski, ride a motorcycle, or go on a magic carpet ride, to name a few scenarios. In addition, participants will receive a free videotape of their performances.
- Monday, Sept. 19: Laser Spectacular Concert-Modern Rock, 8 p.m., location to be announced, featuring the music of Pearl Jam, Metallica and Nirvana; Steve Gipson, caricature artist, Colvard Union lobby, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
- Tuesday, Sept. 20: Free orange sherbet giveaway, Gathering Park, 1:30 p.m.; singer/songwriter Michael Hall, local “Country Showdown” talent winner, Gathering Park, 1:30-3:30 p.m.; Orange Pin Bowling, Dawg House Game Room, 6-8 p.m.; free movie, “Philadelphia,” Union small auditorium, 8 p.m.
