As president, McLaurin will lead the association, which is dedicated to improving the quality of individual and family life for Mississippians through education and influencing public policy.
"The association serves as the voice of home economics, the only profession that combines knowledge from all the basic disciplines to solve the complex problems families and consumers face," McLaurin said.
Other Mississippi State faculty were honored during the MSHEA meeting.
Dr. Frances Graham, extension housing specialist, was elected vice president for public affairs, and Pat Lindig, assistant professor of home economics, was elected vice president for sections.
Grenell Rogers, Oktibbeha County extension home economist, was elected vice president for external relations.
MSHEA is an affiliate of the American Home Economics Association, which recently was renamed the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. It is composed of professionals from colleges, universities, the Cooperative Extension Service, human services, businesses, and industries.
