Mississippi State has had an exchange program with the Japanese university since 1984.
"The professors, who teach mechanical and electrical engineering as well as chemistry, also are meeting with campus administrators and are spending time exploring the culture of the area," said Susan Brown, of the Asian Studies Center in the Division of Continuing Education.
The visitors arrived last Sunday and will depart Monday. While in the South, they will tour the Columbus and Tupelo areas and will also visit New Orleans.
As part of the 10-year exchange program with Meisei University, Mississippi State professors have had opportunities to live in Tokyo and teach English classes. Meisei professors have, in turn, taught Japanese and engineering classes at Mississippi State.
Through the exchange program, more than 300 visiting young Japanese students have studied language and culture at Mississippi State through the university's Meisei University Student Workshop.
