

Those eligible for the awards are full-time, tenure-track members of the faculty who are teaching at least six hours of regularly scheduled courses during the current academic year, including full-time, permanent instructors.
The maximum award for a proposal from one faculty member is $5,000. Two or more faculty members may collaborate on a single project, with an award of up to $10,000 possible.
Projects may deal with, but aren't limited to, the following: new ways of covering course content, fresh approaches to the evaluation of student performance, innovative techniques that address diverse learning styles, imaginative solutions to the problems of academic advisement, and other topics designed to improve undergraduate instruction.
According to Dr. Miriam Shillingsburg, associate vice president for academic affairs, copies of the application procedure have been sent to deans and directors for distribution.
Application materials are due no later than Sept. 26 to Dr. Charles Pickett, Associate Commissioner of Academic Affairs, Institutions of Higher Learning, 3825 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, MS 39211-6453.
Procedural questions may be directed to Shillingsburg at 325-3742. Questions about the proposals themselves should be directed to either Pickett or Dr. James Hollandsworth at the board office, 982-6476.
