McCarty
Richard Armstrong of Starkville is the new development officer in the College of Business and Industry. He originally joined the Office of Development in August 1993 as the development officer in the School of Architecture.
A native of Meridian, Armstrong graduated from Mississippi State in 1968 with a degree in general business. He retired in 1993 after 25 years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps, achieving the rank of colonel. He was the commanding officer of a 2,500-member command in North Carolina at the time of his retirement.
While on active duty, he served as alumni chapter president in Montgomery, Ala., and was awarded the J.E. "Red" Ruffin Award and Distinguished Service Award.
Jack R. McCarty of Starkville is the new development officer for the Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine.
McCarty is a 1991 graduate of Mississippi State's College of Agriculture and Home Economics, where he received a bachelor's degree in general agriculture.
Most recently he served as geographic information systems operator for the Mississippi Cooperative Extension Service's Mississippi Boll Weevil Management Program, where he was the statewide spokesperson for the program.
McCarty was employed previously as a market development assistant for ICI Agricultural Products in Collierville, Tenn.
