About seven national and two international fellowships will be awarded for graduate study in the United States in any area of home economics. For the 1996-97 competition, the Foundation encourages applications for graduate study in the areas of clothing and textiles, and nutrition. The Association was formerly the American Home Economics Association Foundation.
Program: Spencer Fellowship ProgramAwards up to thirty fellowships of $40,000 for one academic year or $20,000 for each of two contiguous years, working half-time, in matters relevant to the improvement of education in all forms. The program is designed to encourage scholarship among individuals in the early stages of their careers. Candidates must have received the Ph.D. within the past six years.
Program: White House FellowshipsEleven to 19 fellowships are awarded annually to provide gifted and highly motivated young Americans with first-hand experience in the process of government and a sense of personal involvement in the leadership of our society. Each fellow is paid by his or her employing federal agency at an appropriate scale (no higher than a GS-15, step 3). There is no basic educational requirement.
Supports one year residential fellowships for doctoral candidates and recent doctoral recipients in the humanities or social sciences, who are rewriting their dissertations for publication. Areas of research should complement the Center's interest in a multidisciplinary approach to the history of art. Stipends are $15,000 for predoctoral and $20,000 for postdoctoral fellowships.
Program: Research AwardsOpportunities are available for scholars of English and American literature, history, American studies, history of science and law, and philosophy to conduct research utilizing the Library's collections. Research awards support projects of up to six months, and award recipients are expected to be in residence throughout their tenure. Grants are awarded to predoctoral and postdoctoral scholars. The application period is October 1, 1995 to December 15, 1995.
Program: Postdoctoral FellowshipsPostdoctoral fellowships in residence provide stipends of $25,000 for research that relates to a topic that changes every year. The 1996-97 topic is "The Future of Gender." Fellowships are open to untenured scholars in the humanities and social sciences, especially third world and minority scholars.
Makes one year research training award to encourage new investigators to enter an academic career in liver disease research. The award is intended as a supplement to augment NIH or private fellowship stipends and will not be awarded without other sources of research salary support. FY 96 stipend is $7,500. Also awards student research fellowships ($2,500) to M.D. and Ph.D. students and Liver Scholar Awards ($30,000) to young investigators.
Program: Doctoral Fellowships in Sociology - Minority FellowshipsWith funding from NIMH, provides fellowships to minorities who are beginning or continuing studies towards a doctoral degree, to allow them to conduct research on mental health issues of minorities and the sociological implications of these issues. Approximately ten fellowships carrying a stipend of $8,800 are awarded each year and can be renewed for up to three years.
Supports the full-time study of outstanding prospective investigators prior to or in the first year of work towards a Ph.D. or Sc.D. in biological fields, including but not limited to: cell biology and regulation; genetics; immunology; neuroscience; structural biology; biophysics; biochemistry; microbiology; pharmacology; physiology; molecular biology; biostatistics; epidemiology; and mathematical biology. Annual stipend is $14,500 for three years (with a possible two-year extension) and an annual $14,000 cost-of-education allowance.
Program: Database Activities in the Biological SciencesProvides support for the design, development, implementation and use of information resources in all fields supported by the BS Directorate. Supported activities include methods and tools development; database activities research, and creation of algorithms and software; planning and design of databases; conferences and workshops; training; and collection, compilation and publication of appropriate background materials. Preproposals, to be submitted by July 1, are requested but not required.
