White House Fellowship applications due Dec. 1

Dec. 1 is the application deadline for the 20 White House Fellowships to be awarded next year to give promising young professionals high-level work experience in the federal government.

The bipartisan White House Fellowship, created in 1965, allows fellows to spend a year as full-time paid assistants to senior White House staff, the vice president, Cabinet officers and other top government officials.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens. There are no formal age or education requirements, but those interviewed have tended to be in their mid-20s to early 40s.

Application forms and a brochure can be obtained by sending an e-mail message to almanac@ace.esusda.gov with the words "send brochure" typed on the subject line and in the body of the message; via Internet on the White House home page on the World Wide Web at http://www.whitehouse.gov/White_House/WH_Fellows/html/fellows1.html; or by mail from the President's Commission on White House Fellowships, 712 Jackson Place, NW, Washington, D.C. 20503.

Regional finalists will be selected in February and national finalists will be named in April. Final selections will be announced in June 1996 for the fellowships to run from Sept. 1, 1996, to Aug. 31, 1997.
