Program: Special Initiative: A National Conversation on American Pluralism and Identity
Agency: National Endowment for the Humanities
Next Deadline: NOV 24, 1995
Awards special grants for conversations (informed by scholarship) that bring diverse groups of Americans to study, learn and discuss differences of race, ethnicity and culture among Americans. Grants may range in size from $3,000 to $100,000. Applications are also being accepted in any NEH division for regular grants in support of research, fellowships, museum exhibitions, projects at IHEs, media projects, library programs, or symposia focusing on American pluralism. Program: Interpretive Research: Conferences
Agency: National Endowment for the Humanities
Next Deadline: DEC 15, 1995
Supports conferences that enable American and foreign scholars to advance the current state of research on topics of major importance in the humanities. Conferences should be designed to accomplish objectives that cannot be attained by other means. Support will range from $6,000 to $40,000 depending on the number of participants. The grant is made to an institution for both the cost of organizing a conference and support of the participants.
Program: SSRC - MacArthur Fellowships on Peace and Security
Agency: Social Science Research Council
Next Deadline: DEC 01, 1995
With funding from the MacArthur Foundation, approximately 12 to 16 two-year doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships will be awarded in international peace and security studies. Doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars from the physical and biological sciences as well as from the social/behavioral sciences are eligible. Awards are approximately $17,500 per year for dissertation fellowships and up to $37,500 per year for postdoctoral fellowships.

Program: Research Conferences Program
Agency: American Psychological Association

Supports scientific research conferences in the field of psychology. A successful conference topic will attract a broad range of participants, represent a new approach to a research problem that has not received adequate coverage in other conferences, and lend itself to scholarly publication. At least one of the primary organizers must be an APA member.

Program: Biotic Surveys and Inventories
Agency: National Science Foundation
Next Deadline: NOV 13, 1995
Supports research that documents the diversity of life on earth, both past and present, as a prologue to investigations of patterns and processes and the development of plans for conservation of that diversity. From 15 to 35 awards will be made each year. Grants average $70,000 annually over three years. See National Science Foundation document 95-39 for more information.
Program: NSFNET Networking Program
Agency: National Science Foundation
Next Deadline: NOV 01, 1995
Target Date - proposals may be submitted at any time.
Encourages and facilitates scientific communication and collaboration by providing widespread access to unique resources through use of wide-area computer networks. Supports expansion of existing networks, assists formation of state and regional networks, and provides institutional access to NSFNET. For initial access to NSFNET, institutions typically receive a two-year grant of up to $30,000.
Program: Instrumentation and Laboratory Improvement Program
Agency: National Science Foundation
Next Deadline: NOV 14, 1995
Provides matching grants of up to $100,000 for projects to purchase or upgrade laboratory and instructional equipment that will be used to strengthen undergraduate instruction in science, math and engineering. All two-year, four-year and Ph.D. granting institutions are eligible to apply. In addition, a limited number of awards for Leadership Projects in Laboratory Development are made for innovative, replicable pilot or planning projects with potential for national impact.
