Tim McGraw to headline Homecoming weekend concert

Country music singer Tim McGraw will headline a Homecoming weekend concert here.

McGraw will appear Oct. 27, along with BlackHawk and 4 Runner, in a 7:30 p.m. concert in Humphrey Coliseum.

A recent "Top New Male Vocalist" of the year winner, McGraw also won an "Album of the Year" trophy from the Academy of Country Music. Only one other artist, Clint Black, has simultaneously won the newcomer and album categories at the ACM awards.

The Start, La., native also was named Country Music Television's Male Video Artist of the Year for 1994.

BlackHawk has had a No. 1 hit song off its debut album, along with four Top 10 singles. Their second album, "I'm Not Strong Enough to Say No," has garnered glowing reviews for the trio. Critics say the album's style ranges from strong harmonies to country rock.

The third act to appear will be 4 Runner, a quartet embracing four equal vocal parts. Lead singer Craig Morris said it's "rare to have four true parts--tenor, baritone, lead, and bass. It's a fresh sound that's absent from radio."

The concert is sponsored by Music Maker Productions at MSU.

Tickets are $19 for the stands and $25 for the floor. They are on sale at the Colvard Union ticket office and in Starkville at Be-Bop Records, Crossroads Discs and Tapes and On Cue.

For more information, or to order tickets, telephone the Colvard Union ticket office at 325-2126.
