Mathematician reaches publishing milestone

Dr. John R. Graef, professor, Mathematics and Statistics, was recognized recently by his department for having at least 100 papers published or accepted for publication since 1971.

Department head Ratnasingham Shivaji said publishing two papers a year is considered above average for most mathematicians. He said Graef's average of five per year is "very rare."

In addition to publishing mathematical papers, Graef recently traveled to Bratislava, Slovakia, to lecture and collaborate on joint research for the Department of Mathematical Analysis of Comenius University. His lecture was entitled, "The Sublinear Limit-Circle Problem," which he also delivered in Brno, Czech Republic. He was invited by the Brno Branch of the Institute of Mathematics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Department of Mathematics of Masaryk University. He also spoke on "Calculus in the USA Today: Part 1."

Graef received his Ph.D. in 1970 from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
