Arts/Humanities/International
Program: Lloyd Lewis Fellowships in American History
Agency: Newberry Library
Next Deadline: JAN 20, 1996
Awards are available for established scholars in any field of American history appropriate to Newberry's collections. Newberry collections are especially strong on the discovery of the New World; the American Indian; the American West; local history; geneology; family history; and colonial Latin America. Maximum stipend for these six to eleven month awards is $40,000.
Program: Newberry-Monticello College Foundation Fellowships for Women

One six-month fellowship provides a stipend of $12,500 for a woman scholar's research at the Newberry Library. Special consideration will be given to projects particularly concerned with the study of women, but applications will be accepted in any field appropriate to the Newberry's collections, which include history, humanities, music, linguistics, literature, printing, and cartography. This program is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents with Ph.D.s.
Program: Smithsonian Fellowships

Graduate-level, predoctoral, postdoctoral and senior residential fellowships support research in the following areas: anthropology; archaeology; astrophysics and astronomy; earth sciences; ecology, behavioral, and environmental sciences; evolutionary and systematic biology; history of science and technology; art history; and social and cultural history of the United States. The stipend and length of fellowship vary. Graduate and undergraduate-level minority and Native American internships are also available.
Education/Human and Community Development
Program: ETS Fellowships
Agency: Educational Testing Service
Next Deadline: JAN 16, 1996
Up to four postdoctoral fellowships of $35,000 are awarded annually to conduct research at ETS for one year in the following areas: statistics, psychometrics, psychology, policy studies, minority issues, technology, higher education, vocational testing, and other testing issues. One or two visiting scholar awards are available annually for research on education for Black, Hispanic, or other minority students. Summer programs for graduate students are also available.
Program: Executive Branch Policy Fellowships in Child Development
Agency: Society for Research in Child Development
Next Deadline: JAN 30, 1996
Three fellowships provide child development researchers with one year of residency at a federal agency. The fellow is treated as part of the agency staff and should have an interest in applying scientific knowledge toward the solution of societal problems affecting children. Fellows must be members of SRCD and will be part of an Intergovernmental Personnel Act agreement. Stipend range is $30,000 to $35,000.
Health/Mental Health
Program: Basic Research Grants in Reproductive Physiology
Agency: Lalor Foundation
Next Deadline: JAN 15, 1996
Grants are made to institutions to support a nominated faculty member's basic research on mammalian reproductive physiology and biochemistry bearing on sterilization and/or prevention or termination of pregnancy. Preference is given to nominees that have received an M.D. or Ph.D. within the past five years. Maximum award is $20,000.
Program: McKnight Scholars Awards
Agency: McKnight Endowment for Neurosciences
Next Deadline: JAN 02, 1996
Makes up to six awards annually to support research in neuroscience, especially as it pertains to memory and to the diseases affecting memory and its biological substrates. Applicants must hold M.D. and/or Ph.D. and have completed no more than five years of postdoctoral research. Awards are $40,000 each year for three years.
Science/Engineering
Program: Navy Summer Faculty Programs
Agency: American Society for Engineering Education
Next Deadline: JAN 12, 1996
Approximately 150-200 ten-week summer fellowships are available for science and engineering faculty to work in residence at one of the research and development centers operated by the Office of Naval Research. A stipend and travel allowance ranging from $1,150-$1,650 per week are provided. Applicants must be U.S. citizens with five years of teaching or research experience. Research areas include behavioral, biomedical and life sciences, space sciences, psychology and medical sciences, and engineering and physical sciences.
