Local Sigma Xi chapter announces spring seminars, membership banquet

The Mississippi State Chapter of Sigma Xi is holding a membership banquet and a series of seminars during spring semester. The first seminar, "Ergonomics in the Workplace," led by Dr. Lesia Crumpton, took place in January.

The two upcoming seminars are "Gamma Ray Bursters," presented by Dr. J. Patrick Lestrade on Feb. 23, and "Development of Manufacturing Control Strategies Using Unsupervised Machine Learning," presented by Dr. Royce Bowden on April 27. Both sessions are open to the public.

At the March 23 membership banquet, Dr. Lloyd Bennett will speak on "Birds of Hawaii." New members will be initiated into the society, promotions to full membership will be announced, and recognition will be given to outstanding scientists. The banquet is set for 6 p.m. at the Starkville Holiday Inn.

Sigma Xi provides scientific information and programs to the community through its Speakers' Bureau and the Science Education Program.

The Speakers' Bureau provides a list of scientists who present programs to clubs and organizations.

The Science Education Project provides programs and demonstrations in area schools. Nationally, Sigma Xi is recognized for its work in science education K-12.
