Twenty-two 1995 Faculty Award nominees announced


Twenty-two Mississippi State faculty members have been nominated to receive the alumni association's 1995 Faculty Awards during ceremonies Friday, April 28.

Five awards will be presented at the 6:30 p.m. banquet in Humphrey Coliseum, including Lower Level Teaching Award (freshman and sophomore), Upper Level Teaching Award (junior and senior), Graduate Level Teaching Award, Research Award, and Service Award. Award recipients will receive $1,000 and a commemorative plaque.

This is the 30th year of the alumni association's faculty recognition banquet. Entertainment at the annual banquet will include a University Television Center-produced video highlighting the past 30 years of the event.

Those nominated for awards include:

Teaching Awards: Jack L. Bartlett, associate professor, art; Karyn L. Brown, instructor, communication; Dr. Philip A. Bushby, professor, veterinary medicine; Dr. Marion B. Couvillion, assistant professor, communication; Dr. Hank Flick, professor, communication; Dr. David T. Morse, professor, counselor education and educational psychology; Dr. Michael D. Richard, assistant professor, marketing; Dr. Jung P. Shim, professor, information systems and management science; Dr. Paula W. Sunderman, associate professor, English; and Dr. James S. Turner, professor, curriculum and instruction.

Research Award: James H. Corbin, director, Center for Air-Sea Technology; Dr. Jeffery S. Elwell, associate professor, communication; Dr. Rodney B. Piercey, professor, physics and astronomy; Dr. David R. Shaw, professor, weed science; Dr. William Steve Shepard, director, Diagnostic Instrumentation and Analysis Laboratory; Dr. Cynthia Webster, professor, marketing; and Dr. Jianping Zhu, associate professor, mathematics and statistics.

Service Award: Dr. Zoel W. Daughtrey, professor, accounting; Dr. John E. Forde, assistant professor, communication; William L. Henry, staff benefits officer, Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station/Mississippi Cooperative Extension Service; Dr. Paul H. Short, wood products specialist, Food and Fiber Center, Mississippi Cooperative Extension Service; and Dr. Joe Ray Underwood, professor, counselor education.
