The 7 p.m. event is April 25 in the courtyard of the Mississippi Research and Technology Park on Highway 82 directly across from the campus.
The $15 admission for the event includes pre-concert refreshments and a "meet the artist" reception with hors d'oeuvres and desserts following the recital.
Guest artists are trumpeter George Recker, former principal trumpet with the Kennedy Center Orchestra, and Arthur Maddox, who has collaborated with performer Mason Williams both for television and studio recordings.
Among the evening's selections are the Haydn Trumpet Concerto, Clarke's "Stars in a Velvety Sky," rags by Scott Joplin, original compositions by Maddox, and "The Grippe: A Sneezing Intermezzo," composed at the turn of the century by Recker's grandfather, noted Tin-Pan Alley composer Robert Recker.
George Recker is a frequent soloist, chamber player and orchestral trumpeter throughout the United States and Europe. He has recorded for Nonesuch, Summitt, Centaur, and Erata Records.
Maddox is a composer, arranger and pianist. His orchestral compositions have been performed by orchestras in San Francisco, Kansas City and New York. He has recorded on the Real Music, Desoto, Polydor, and CRI labels.
The concert is sponsored by the university's Music Education Department and, in part, by a gift from Deposit Guaranty National Bank. Additional support came from the Starkville Area Chamber of Commerce, the University Honors Program, University Dining Services, and the Office of Facilities Use.
