Arts/Humanities/International

Program: Libraries and Archives
Agency: National Endowment for the Humanities
Next Deadline: JUL 15, 1995

Supports programs to increase public understanding of the humanities through the use of books, new technologies, and other resources in libraries and archives. Formats include reading and discussion programs, lectures, symposia, and interpretive exhibitions of books, manuscripts and other library resources. Awards are also made for professional development programs to strengthen librarians' ability to present humanities programs.

Program: The Norwegian Emigration Fund Scholarships
Agency: Norwegian Information Service of the U.S.
Next Deadline: JUL 01, 1995

Support is provided to U.S. citizens for advanced or specialized graduate studies in Norway on subjects related to emigration history and relations between the U.S. and Norway. The maximum award is $4,500.

Education/Human and Community Development

Program: Dwight D. Eisenhower Regional Math and Science Education Consortiums Program
Agency: U.S. Department of Education
Next Deadline: JUN 15, 1995

Supports the establishment and operation of regional consortiums to disseminate exemplary science and math education materials and serve as technical assistance resource centers to help K-12 teachers and administrators implement new teaching methods and assessment tools. ED expects to announce an FY 95 competition in the Federal Register in mid-April 1995.

Program: Research, Training and Demonstration Projects in Aging
Agency: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
Next Deadline: JUL 14, 1995

Supports research, training and demonstration projects that examine issues relating to the aged. FY 94 priorities were home and community-based long-term care; older women; nutrition and malnutrition among the elderly; blueprint for an aging society; and other Older American Act mandates. Deadlines were 7/12/94 and 10/7/94 and varied according to priority. Deadlines for field-initiated projects are 10/7/94, 1/13/95, 4/14/95, and 7/14/95. HHS plans to announce the FY 95 competition for research, demonstrations and training in April 1995.

Health/Mental Health

Program: Grants-in-Aid
Agency: American Heart Association
Next Deadline: JUL 01, 1995

Supports research broadly related to cardiovascular function and disease or to similar fundamental problems. Funding is available in all basic disciplines, such as physiology, biochemistry, and pathology, as well as for epidemiological and clinical investigations that are related to cardiovascular problems. Maximum award is $40,000 per year for a maximum of three years.

Program: Research Grants Programs
Agency: American Institute for Cancer Research
Next Deadline: JUL 01, 1995

Two types of awards support research relevant to the effects of dietary and nutritional practices on the onset, development, and treatment of cancer. Investigator-Initiated Research Grants (January 1 and July 1 deadlines) average $55,000 per year for two years; and First Award Grants (February 1 deadline) provide one-year, non-renewable awards of $10,000.

Program: Epidemiological Studies of HIV/AIDS in Selected Populations
Agency: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Next Deadline: JUL, 1995

University researchers are eligible to apply for support to study the impact of HIV on individuals and their families. Each year research priorities change for this program. CDC has not set priorities for FY 95, but plans to announce them in the Federa Register in May 1995.

Science/Engineering

Program: Special Grant Program in the Chemical Sciences
Agency: Dreyfus (Camille and Henry) Foundation
Next Deadline: JUL 14, 1995

Supports unusual departmental or institutional efforts in education in the chemical sciences. Support is available for, but not limited to: curriculum development; enhancement of institutional research capabilities (including equipment); special programs for students or teachers; and outreach efforts to increase career interest in the chemical sciences. Awards are seed money rather than sustaining grants. Deadline cited is for required preliminary letter. Full proposals are due September 15.

Program: Division of Integrative Biology and Neuroscience
Agency: National Science Foundation
Next Deadline: JUL 15, 1995
Target Date - proposals may be submitted at any time.

Emphasizes the integration of molecular, subcellular, and cellular biology in understanding organisms in the lab and in nature. Awards are made through three program areas: Physiology and Behavior (June 15 and December 15 target dates), Neuroscience (January 15 and July 15 target dates), and Developmental Mechanisms (June 1 and December 1 target dates).
