Computing Center announces short courses for fall


Short courses conducted by the Computing Center will begin in September.

The computer classes are open to students, faculty and staff, but you are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. All courses are free of charge and all will be held in 102 Simrall, 3-5 p.m.

Courses include:

Sept. 11--Getting Started on the UNIX Operating System--This class will explain many important utilities, including those that create, manipulate and print files, commands to view system documentation, communicate with other users and much more.

Sept. 12--The Internet--Many programs available on the Internet will be covered along with their practical uses. These will include Netscape, lynx, archie, ftp, gopher, veronica, hytelnet and usenet.

Sept. 13--PPP/SLIP Setup at MSU--This class will explain how to set up Netscape, Mosaic and other WinSock Clients over your modem.

Sept. 14--Interesting Places to Visit on the Internet --This class will point you to a variety of interesting and resourceful places to visit on the Internet.

Sept. 18--Presentation Technologies Today --This class will explore available technologies for teaching in today's classroom. It will also explore how to adapt an existing classroom on a bargain budget.

Sept. 19--SAS in the Microsoft Windows Environment (6.10)--The class will focus on SAS in its new Windows environment. All the features which make Windows SAS easy to use will be stressed. Sample SAS programs will be demonstrated.

Sept. 20--SPSS for Windows (6.1.2)--This class will focus on the new SPSS windows features. SPSS syntax will also be covered.

Sept. 21--SAS Syntax and the Statistical Procedures T-Test and Anova-- Beginning SAS Syntax and the Statistical procedures T-Test and Anova will be covered in this short course.
