Jim DelPrince, a graduate assistant in Plant and Soil Sciences and doctoral candidate in Agricultural Education, gave a presentation on his dissertation research at the American Institute of Floral Designers National Symposium in Chicago, recently. The research deals with floral designs of the Victorian Era, flowers for social events, the domestic environment, and sympathy, 1837-1901. DelPrince received two dissertation grants from the AIFD Foundation in 1993 and 1994.
P.C. "Mac" McLaurin Jr. was appointed to a four-year term on the board of commissioners of the Golden Triangle Regional Solid Waste Management Authority by the Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors. McLaurin is an Extension local government specialist in the Community Development Department. The GTRSWMA is the regional waste management authority serving the Golden Triangle.
A January Templeton American Music Series concert, featuring ragtime pianist Richard Zimmerman and the Etcetera String Band, was recorded by the University TV Center and produced as a three-part, 90-minute special for Mississippi ETV. Also, the 11th annual Mississippi Piano Showcase, sponsored by the Department of Music Education, was aired on ETV in August. The Piano Showcase is a week-long series of piano master classes, workshops and concerts featuring the university keyboard faculty and prominent artists/teachers from around the country.
Michael Mott, Art, will be the Spotlight Artist at the new World Wide Web site of HSC Software Inc., which should go on-line in the next few days. The URL will be http://www.hsc.com. A gallery of his computer-generated work will be featured there. In addition, Mott's work is currently featured in another on-line art gallery, The Terraformers Guild, at http://www.emr.ca/~hbrand/brycegal.index.html. Mott also has his own URL, http://www.erc.msstate.edu/~mott, which features his artwork and abbreviated bibliography of places his work has been published or featured.
