

Program: Art History and Conservation Fellowships

Art history fellowships (11/08/96 deadline) support Ph.D. candidates ($18,000 stipend) and academic scholars ($26,000 stipend) for up to one year of study at the Museum using the Museum's collection. The Theodore Rousseau Fellowship (11/08/96 deadline) supports art history graduate students enrolled for at least one year in an advanced degree program to study major collections in Europe. Conservation fellowships (01/03/97 deadline) support the training of graduate students and scholars at the Museum.

Funded through a grant from USIA, the program offers grants for the development of campus-based and community projects to enhance the experience of foreign students at U.S. colleges and universities and U.S. students participating in study abroad. Maximum award is $6,000. Mini-grant proposals (under $1,000) also are available and may be submitted at any time.

Awards grants for research, information dissemination, and general operating support in the areas of dissent (protecting the right to dissent, preserving society's right to hold officials and institutions accountable, and preventing human rights violations) and the environment (to encourage biodiversity and eliminate toxins from the source). A limited number of grants also will be made in the areas of peace and security, and children's health and the environment. Program: AmeriCorps Education Awards Program

Awards go to IHEs, national nonprofit organizations and state-level agencies to support volunteer community service projects. In return for up to two years of service, volunteers receive an award (for postsecondary or graduate education) of up to $4,725 for full-time service, or $2,362 for part-time service. Program: Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program
Agency: American Liver Foundation

Makes one-year research training awards to encourage new investigators to enter an academic career in liver disease research. The award is intended as a supplement to augment National Institutes of Health or private fellowship stipends and will not be awarded without other sources of research salary support. FY 96 stipend is $7,500. The foundation also awards student research fellowships ($2,500) to M.D. and Ph.D. students and Liver Scholar Awards ($30,000) to young investigators.

Supports up to three psychologists serving one-year appointments as legislative assistants on the staff of a member of Congress or congressional committee. Applicant must be APA member. Minimum of two years postdoctoral experience is preferred. Stipends are $39,000 for junior fellowships and $49,000 for senior fellowships, plus $3,000 for relocation to Washington, DC. This program supports research in the field of geography that either addresses the gaps in the existing knowledge base, or will open new areas, topics, or techniques for geographic research. Ten to 15 summer fellowships in residence allow young postdoctoral and advanced predoctoral investigators to carry out independent research projects at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Candidates may propose work in such areas as neurodevelopment, neuroanatomy, cellular neurobiology, tissue culture, behavioral analysis, neurochemistry, and electrophysiology.

Provides opportunities to work with university staff and the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder for periods of four months to one year. Research and applications may deal with laser technology; optoelectronics; precision measurement; surface science and semiconductors; information and image processing; materials and process science; atomic, molecular and optical physics; gravitational physics; chemical physics; astrophysics; and geophysical measurements. Awards provide a maximum of $3,500 per month, plus travel costs.
